Mathieu is a young baritone with a rich and inviting tone suiting both opera and oratorio. After passing his ABRSM examinations in 2009/2010, he moved on in 2011, to work at the opera course at CityLit in Covent Garden, London where he studied under Peter Crockford and Carol Gibb. Performances here included Papageno in the Magic Flute, Publio in Clemenza di Tito,Florestan in the rarely heard opera comique Veronique by Andre Massager, along with Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas and Guilio Cesare by Handel.
Soon after Mathieu joined the Magdala Opera in Nottingham, singing in concerts under the directorship of Michelle Wegwart.
Future engagements include the baritone solo in the Faure Requiem with the Cranmer Company of Singers.
Having taken part in the operahouse concert last September this production of The Elixir of Love marks Mathieu's operatic debut with operahouse and in the role of the brash, super confident Sergeant Belcore.
