Lynda Smart - Mezzo-Soprano
A valuable and talented new comer to operahouse, Lynda Smart has already taken part in a Gala Concert that operahouse staged in Lincolnshire in 2004. She has trained for many years with Thora Kibert in Leicester and has achieved considerable success in Music Festivals most notably at Grantham, Tamworth and Leicester Music Festivals. Lynda regularly appears as a soloist and is no stranger to the concert platform, particularly enjoying her engagements with the Wigston and District Male Voice Choir's special Proms Night concerts, for as she says "100 men and just one girl - I'm not stupid!!".
However, her first love is performing on the stage, and she has made many appearances with local operatic and musical societies in Leicester, Hinckley and Melton Mowbray, in a variety of roles from Music-hall to Musical Theatre, Pantomime, straight plays and more recently opera.
As a member of Leicester Gilbert and Sullivan Operatic Society Lynda is fortunate to have played most of the great G & S principal soprano roles including Mabel (The Pirates of Penzance), Yum-Yum (The Mikado), and Phoebe (The Yeoman of the Guard). Among Lynda's all-time favourite Musical Theatre performances were as Annie (Annie Get Your Gun), and Eliza (My Fair Lady).
Although a regular newcomer to the world of opera, Lynda has already been able to achieve long-held ambitions to play the dream roles of Prince Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus) and the title role of Carmen, both with Ashleyan Opera.
When not performing on stage, Lynda combines her singing with her working life as a theatre reviewer, critic and theatre columnist for the Leicester Mercury.
She considers herself very fortunate to have met and made so many good friends through her singing, and is now looking forward to the challenges presented by operahouse.
