Kate King - Mezzo-Soprano

Born and bred in the East Midlands, Kate King studied music at Birmingham University and the art of accompaniment at the Birmingham Conservatoire. Kate studied piano with the Beryl Chempin, the Double Bass under Tony Morgan and was selected as both the accompanist to and as a singing pupil of renowned singing teacher Barbara McGuire.

Having gained her B.Mus(Hons), Kate returned to Loughborough as a specialist music teacher in primary school, and has since been in demand as a rehearsal and music examination accompanist, as well as regularly playing in theatre orchestras. As a singer she has taken part in a large variety of musical theatre including Guys and Dolls, Kiss Me Kate, Patience, Yeoman of the Guard, La Belle Helene, Die Fledermaus, Merry Widow, Masked Ball and Carmen and even as a session singer for Barry Manilow on one of his European tours!

Kate took more seriously to singing some years after leaving University, studying the voice with Andrea Jackson and then Jenny Saunders. This led to principle roles such as Amneris and Carmen with Charnwood Opera and Suzuki with operahouse as well as singing with local group ‘Concorde’.

Such is Kate’s endless musicianship that she is also a respected Musical Director in her own right having been resident conductor with Christchurch G&S Society for the last 10 years as well as conducting many musicals for local societies (most recently Elton John and Tim Rice’s ‘Aida’ for LAOS), and premieres of works by local composer John Middleton.
