Alan Speight - Baritone
Alan Speight is an experienced stage performer having appeared in over 100 productions throughout the Midlands, with the Loughborough Amateur Operatic Society (with which he has been a member for 40 years), the ESNA Players, Leicester Opera, Ashleyan Opera, Leicester Gilbert & Sullivan, Leicester Operatic Players and the Market Harborough Amateur Operatic Society, in productions of Musicals, Operetta, Gilbert & Sullivan and Grand Opera. Amongst others, his many roles include, Curly (Oklahoma), Billy (Carousel), Ravenel (Show Boat), Captain Von Trapp (Sound of Music), Danilo (The Merry Widow), Dr Falke (Die Fledermaus), The Judge (Sweeney Todd), The Pirate King (Pirates of Penzance), Pooh Bah (The Mikado), Escamillo (Carmen), Sharpless (Madame Butterfly, Ping (Turandot), Germont Père (La Traviata), Marcello (La Bohème) and Mephistopheles (Faust).
When not taking principal roles Alan believes it important to sing as part of the chorus, as he did in one of his favourite shows, The Hired Man, with the Loughborough Amateurs in 2004.
Alan is in demand as an oratorio and concert soloist and is a member of the a capella vocal ensemble "Concorde" and took part in its inaugural concert in October 2005 in aid of the Sudan Appeal.
After leaving full time employment with Rolls Royce after 39 years, Alan now runs his own house and garden maintenance business - AGS Property Services. Alan played the part of Sharpless for operahouse in Madame Butterfly in 2006.
